Yea but this does not explain what happens when you use compression stac
under an interface that is configured for ppp. And how that is different
from ppp compression stacker.
I think the answer may be that using the command "compression" implements a
cisco proprietary compression mechanism that may be used under PPP, HDLC and
LabB. But because ppp has compression in the protocol, you may use the
command "ppp compression stacker" for compression as identified by the
standard. But this is just speculation.
