The use of SPIDs depends on the ISDN switch type. In some cases you will
not need to specify SPIDs, in others you will. If SPIDs are used, there
will be one per B channel. Like frame-relay DLCIs, they are locally
significant between the router and the connected switch.

For practice if you're using real ISDN lines, you'll be stuck with whatever
the local telco gives you. If you're using a simulator, whether you need
SPIDs will depend on your simulator.

For the lab, you should be able to set it up either way, as you won't
know in advance.

Configuring SPIDs and ISDN switch type are pretty trivial copy-and-paste
operations as long as telco gives you the right data.

In the real world, whenever you're asked what a Network Engineer does
to earn a living, the answer more often than not is, "I yell at telephone
companies all day."
