Search the archives. I gave an explanation of what MZmaker does about a
month ago.
If you have an image that is larger than 8MB uncompressed and only 8 MB of
RAM, then MZmaker won't do you any good. MZmaker compresses the image to
fit in less flash space, but at boot it is expanded to the original size,
loaded into and run from RAM. In your case it won't fit in the available
RAM.
Best bet: Buy more flash.
Bear in mind that the amount of RAM available for the router to function
is reduced by the size of the uncompressed original image when you use
MZmaker on a boot-from-flash router such as a 2500. This will be a big
performance hit andmay prevent the router from functioning at all.
Mzmaker is not a panacea. If you have 4M of flash and 16M of RAM, it
will get you going with a 6M IOS image that compresses to less than 4M.
You need more flash, which is rather cheap these days. You might be
able to get away with MZmaker and 16M of RAM, but I would only use such
a setup in a practice lab, not in production.
