OT: ISDN PRI Interfaces

I have some questions that I have not been able to find on CCO so I need
to get some real world experience.

I am trying to find out about ISDN PRI interfaces with and without CSUs.

I know that with an ISDN PRI interface with integrated CSU, this is what
I have used, there is a controller T1/E1 section that tells the router
what the line code, frame and LBO are and which timeslots are PRI and
CAS etc. But on an ISDN PRI interface without CSU is there still a
controller section, I would think so because you need to tell the router
which timeslots are which, but they do not include line code, frame and
LBO (cable length) commands?

I know that when you turn up an ISDN PRI interface you get the serial
interface for that controller (i.e. controller T1 0/0 is linked to
serial 0/0:23 when you turn up the controller and give it the pri-group
timeslots command).

Also when you are configuring an ISDN PRI E1 interface you have to put
in the ISDN switch type but is there any other switch type to use other
than primary-net5. My thinking is that E1 interfaces are only available
in Europe and other parts of the world and the primary-net5 is also the
only switch type in use in those same regions. So would it make any
sense to configure an ISDN PRI E1 interface with a switch type of
primary-5ess?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
