Hi,

All you need to do is set config reg to 0x2101, and reboot from ROM version
of IOS,
Once in ROM version IOS, the Read only flash now is writeable.

Router#config t
(config)# conf 0x2101
(config)# wr mem
(config)# end
router# reload
Router(boot)>

After upgrade the IOS, you need to change the config reg back to 0x2102 and
go

I read the other responses - here's your solution

copy tftp flash

It will start the flash load helper, which temporarily changes the config
reg so that the flash can be written.

One of the things that I do FIRST is back up the version of IOS that I have
on the router first by issuing a 'copy flash tftp'... just in case I go from
a working image to a bad image.
