And exactly which part of the "other than the VAR/Consulting business" did
you not understand? I'm talking specifically about the ISP industry,
which I have worked in for a while and know quite well.
Not all ISP's use Cisco, especially in the core. And if you have no other
experience working in that kind of environment NO ONE will pay you $150k
to just waltz on in with your CCIE plaque and swing your ego around.
So by all means.. when you pass go around holding out your drool
cup and count how many days you come home dry.
I've worked with CCIE's that I have learned a lot from, I've worked with
CCIE's that I wouldn't let 100 feet near any mission critical
equipment. The lab is fantastic test and proves a lot about the
candidate, but without solid experience in large production environments
it doesn't hold nearly as much weight as it does in the VAR/Consulting
business.
So please drop me a personal email after you (heh) pass your lab exam and
let me know how things are going.
