I have got a little further with the SRB ping .... however still need help from
 anyone out there.

Here is the list of interface I've got setup on 1 router. I'm just trying this
locally to start with to get an understanding.

p2r7#sh source interfaces
                                          v p s n r Packets
Interface St MAC-Address srn bn trn r x p b c IP-Address In Out

To0 up 000a.2a01.54bf 40 1 200 * f F 13366 5403
Vi10 up 4000.0000.000b 10 1 100 * f 0 0
Vi20 up 4000.0000.000c 20 1 100 * f 0 0
Vi30 up 4000.0000.000d 30 1 200 * f 0 0

I just realised that the output I was getting was from a debug that I had turne
d on and didn't realise it was still running. Anyway, here it what I get.

p2r7#debug source bridge
Source Bridge debugging is on
p2r7#ping
Protocol [ip]: srb
Target MAC address: 000a.2a01.54bf
Ring Group :100
Buffer Ring :10
All Route Explorer [n]: y
Send a SABME(S), XID(X), TEST(T) [T]:
DSAP [0]:
SRB : ping 000a.2a01.54bf
p2r7#
17:06:52: SRB_PING: 10 100 000a.2a01.54bf, control = 243, dsap = 0

If anyone can clarify what the ring group and buffer ring commands are, whether
they mean destination or source rings (I'm thinking source ring and source vir
tual ring) and what the output means whether successful or not successful.

Thanks ..... MW :)

Subject: Ping SRB for RSRB, DLSw etc.

To all the SRB, SR/TLB, RSRB and DLSw gurus .....

I have been setting up some Bridging scenarios with routers only, however I'm f
inding it hard to test and to make sure that I'm doing the right thing. The IOS
doesn't give too much away when it comes to SRB stuff, DLSw is a little more i
ntuitive but still hard to test without hosts.

I was looking through ping commands and found "ping srb". I'm hoping this is a
way to test a bridging scenario without the use of hosts which would be very us
eful in the lab seeing as we don't have hosts there either and we have to rely
on instinct. However I'm not too sure how to use it. Here is what I get .....

p2r7#ping srb
Target MAC address: (Canonical or Non-Canonical?)
Ring Group : (I think this is the Virtual Ring number?)
Buffer Ring : (wouldn't have a clue ???)

When I try a variety of addresses and ring numbers, I get the following output
...

15:13:15: SRB ping: vre does not exist

If anyone knows how to use this command or has a better way of testing any type
of bridging scenario without the use of host devices, I'd appreciate your inpu
t. I couldn't find anything intuitive on the CCO site.

Thanks ....... MW :)
