Here's my recommendations:
1. Use Dynamic DNS so that you don't have to worry too much about IPs.
2. You could just open telnet port to one of your boxes using private IPs.
BTW, I found the Netgear cable/DSL router very neat as it has build-in
support for dynamic DNS. It should only cost around $100.
