Clarke,

Following is a sample configuration that will rate-limit a GE port to 5M.
The 6509 can only limit on an INBOUND port. This technology is called
microflow-policing. The bit-bucket algorithm used by the policier is not
intuitive. Cisco has some White Papers available that you should read in
order to better understand. Also, QOS on the 6509 is accomplished via PFC
cache, not MLS cache. The current CatOS does not provide the same statistics
and diagnostic tools on the PFC cache as those provided for MLS... just a
heads up.

Good Luck.. Tim Range

set qos bridged-microflow-policing enable 55
set qos policer microflow campusflow1 rate 5000 burst 4900 drop

#campusACL
set qos acl ip campusACL trust-ipprec microflow campusflow1 ip any any

commit qos acl all

set qos acl map campusACL 3/15

Subject: How to limit the speed of GE port on catalyst 6509 ?

Dear CCIEs and Near CCIEs ,
We have a 6509 with MSFC2 & PFC2 , and we want to limit the speed of GE to
10M , How can we do ?
I think rate-limit , traffic-shap or QOS maybe can help me to resolve this
problem , which is the best method ?
Can you give me a example ?
Best regards .
Clarke J
