Well, finally, it's my turn for the Victory Lap!
I passed my CCIE Lab today at Halifax on my second attempt. First off I
wanted to thank my wife, my family, and my friends for their support while
preparing for this massive test. Last but not least, I wanted to thank God
for answering all of my prayers before I even prayed for them.
I'm not going to get into study materials, because you all have heard the
usual study materials. Assides from technical preparation, you need the
mental preparation/endurance to handle this challenge. The only thing I can
think of that will give you that is practice, practice, and more practice.
You need to KNOW that you could pass this thing, NOT think, but KNOW.
One last word... The proctor is your friend. No one likes to see people
fail day in and day out, but it is the proctor's job to maintain the
integrity of the CCIE certification. It's easy to displace your anger with
yourself onto someone else, but when you lay down in bed at night you know
that if you failed, you failed on your own. My first attempt was in Halifax
as well, and when I failed I was upset, but I knew that the test was
administered in a very fair manner.
My proctor for both attempts, Steve Barnes, was an absolute scholar and a
gentleman. He answered all of my questions to the extent that he was
allowed to, he was extremely patient, and most off all a very capable
individual.
The journey can sometimes be more rewarding than the destination, because
knowledge is in itself a reward.
Happy Travelling and Good Luck to All!
