Hi all,
Hope no one gets annoyed by this basic question on F/R traffic shaping but I
need to get my head straight on these concepts. Please let me know if I got
this right.
1) I set my CIR to limit both in and out maximum data flow. (I slow myself
when reaching CIR except I can burst some data according to Bc and may be
able to burst to Be) (I automatically send becn's when data is inbound too
fast?)
2) I set discard eligibility so the F/R switch can first trash some of my
selected data when it gets overloaded before it trashes my good stuff. (I
have no control over the switch getting congested?)
3) Using becn, I wait for the router at the other end of the circuit to tell
me to slow down.
4) Using foresight I am communicating with the switch to proactively slow
myself down because of an overload to the router at the other end (not too
sure on this one.)
(I think I get an 'F')
Thanks
GW
