Worthless? No. Less valuable? Ya basically. It's a simple matter of
supply and demand. The supply is increasing dramatically and the demand is
decreasing. This is just the current trend. Hopefully in the next year or
two things will turn around, but I am not counting on it. The boom is over.
We can expect better times, but don't count on it being like 1998-2000
anytime soon.

I wouldn't suggest to anyone that they don't continue their studies just as
hard as they have been. Just be prepared that when you pass that it may not
make much difference except to yourself. I know my hourly rate has not
changed one penny since passing. The only difference is I can now apply for
contracts that require the CCIE. So, that part is good and made it worth
the pursuit. I just no longer consider it the Holy Grail that I used to.
I'm not embarrassed at all. I just won't put something after my signature
that I don't consider a special achievement or title. I certainly wouldn't
put an MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, etc after my name because they are common. At the
moment I still consider the CCIE special, but I won't when the numbers
triple in a year.
