I hear ya Chris. If you do a "debug ip packet" you'll see it sending updates
out the Loopback interface.

Doesn't RIP send updates out Loopbacks if the Loopback is configured within
the Network Statement? I remember seeing debug ip rip outputs that say
something to the effect of "Update Ignored Loop0: Source Address is my own".
Please all correct me if I'm wrong

if the question asked you not to include the loopback into this routing
protocol, that's the time you must do this
otherwise, it's only save a little cpu resources, since the routing
protocol won't send any updates throught that loopback

Hello Group,

Is it a good idea to put the loopbacks as passive interfaces...??

so...

int loop 0
ip address 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.0

interface e0
ip address 1.1.2.1 255.255.255.0

router rip
network 1.0.0.0
passive-interface loop 0

I was thinking if this is one area that one could be penalized if done or
not done..
