Devender,
Thanks for the quick response. So your saps cross even beyond 16 hops ???
What version are you running ? I can't get this working on 11.3,12.0(14).
appreciate f you could post a config with saps more than 16 hops. Thanks .
Cheers,Padhu

Padhu,
After your email, I tried it with both nlsp and eigrp, but had no
problems.
May be you are doing something wrong(oversight) in your configs.
Good luck with your coming attempt.

Subject: IPX Maximum hops - Last try !
Last attempt post before it goes to trash.....
Whenever i create a IPX sap with a hop count of 14 it traverses to
the next hop and not beyond that.(its15 now) ..so its working the fine
so far . Now i originate these saps in NLSP or eigrp and send it to the
next router with hop count of 15. By default i would drop it...so now i
code ipx maximum hop count to 100..so that it considers 100 as its
"inifinity"..but still it drops once it reaches a hop count of 16 as it
traverses the
routers. Infact i tried this with all nlsp routers and ipx maximum hop
set
to 100 .
I am sure there are large IPX networks spanning more than 15 hops in
real
world and wondering
how the server wil be accessed beyond a hop count of 15. We are talking
about IPX NLSP and EIGRP here and i have no network all under ipx router
rip
just to make sure its not learning via rip.
Anyone has any ideas ?
Alternatives exist in the form of a tunnel ...but whats the right fix
rather
than work around it ?
Cheers,Padhu

Subject: IPX Maximum hops & NLSP to EIGRP redistribution
I have a ipx lab setup with NLSP and EIGRP running on R2. There are
router
running eigrp behind R3. On R3 mutual redistribution between NLSP and
EIGRP.
problem 1:
I am trying to test sap filterng with distribute-sap-list. All saps with
hops counts less than 14 make to the rest of the network. I configured
ipx
maximum-hops to 250 on all routers so that they consider saps above 16
also
as valid. ( Pls note i am running eigrp and nlsp not ipx rip)
however debug ipx sap events and activity shows that these saps get
dropped
beyond r3 bcos of hop count greater than 16 even though all routers have
the
ipx maximum-hops to 250 . Has anyone encountered this problem ? I am
running
12.0(14) ...
NLSP EIGRP
R1<--------------->R2<----------------->R3
also R3 is originating a few file and print server saps. I want R2 to
send
only all file server saps from any network beyond r3 to be sent to R1.
so i have a sap filter on r2
ipx router nlsp
distribute-sap-list 1001 out eigrp
acl 1001 permit -1 04
however i see this filter not working. however if i do
ipx router nlsp
distribute-sap-list 1001 in
this works .
appreciate any help here . Thanks .
