BT did the same to us, an entire network team with laptops and no serial
port. We had to buy the Belkin serial / USB converter about #50.00

I did the laptop search a short while back. The new I want to be a laptop
when I grow up laptops are nice and small but, you have to look at the
ports, at least for now. I'd thought I'd mention this, because most, if not
all, have a "mega"-port addon, mini-docking station device, that can be
purchased as a permanent fix.
