Well... after fighting with this for several hours, I've come to a few
conclusions.
A config with:
username x password y callback-dialstring z
map class dialer callback
dialer callback-server dial-string
Simply does not work on my setup either.
I get "BR0:1 PPP: Callback user did not negotiate LCP Callback" as debug
from the callback server.
My thinking is that either
a. The username x password y callback-dialstring z is solely intended for
async calls
b. My ISDN switch does not support it, or
c. Cisco's callback client does not support PPP callback option 1 while the
callback server does.
Below is a quote from the configuration guide for PPP callback
This feature implements the following callback specifications of RFC 1570:
For the client---Option 0, location is determined by user authentication
For the server---Option 0, location is determined by user authentication;
Option 1, dialing string; and Option 3, E.164 number.
I take up the call with Padhu for any WORKING configs.
cheers,
Mike G

Thats what i heard a long time ago from someone on the list here....
however i was tempted to try this after seeing the Fatkid lab
http://www.fatkid.com/html/510_expert_dialup_-_solution1.html
But didn't work. May be i missed something...But will try again and see if
it works.

Hi,
As I know, callback-string option in username is used for asynchronous line
only and ISDN line should be synchronous line.

How to get callback to work without dial string ? That was the issue i am
trying to understand. The callback server should derive the
callback dialstring based on the username authenticated. I am gonna try this
lab later and see if it works.

We talked about solution without dial-string on the interfase but with
command:
