You are correct. Bandwidth is cosmetic (or routing protocol weight) only.
The clock rate is what affects how things are REALLY moving on the physical
layer.

Subject: Bandwidth Vs. Clockrate.

Hi evry one,

Consider a test lab environemnt, where I am using Back
to back (DTE to DCE) serail cales to connect between
routers.

1. If I change the bandwidth from 1.544 Mb to 64 Mbps
will it affect the physical interace or will it
only afftect the routing protocol. I belive that it
only affects the routing protocol in computing &
selting the right path. but the data will be pushed at
the maximum avilable bandwidth.

2. If I change the clock rate, we are physically
changing the rate at which the data is pushed on the
interface, so it will have the right effet on the
interface.

Please correct me if I am wrong. Need u commets.

Thanks,
Rajeev.
