Well I was successful on my second attempt last Friday at Brussels.
Day one wasn't too bad, dropped some marks, Proctor wouldn't give my marks only
that I needed to work hard on day two.
Day two I performed well and was pretty sure I would make troubleshooting,
although I felt that I would need about 19 marks (not good).
Any way I got called in and sat down for troubleshooting. The proctor said I
needed 16 marks. Twenty minutes in there was a power failure. When the power wa
s
restored the proctor checked the racks and they had all rebooted, lost one of
the configs which he put back for me. The proctor credited us with 15 mins and
we started again.

The wait for the results was terrible, eventually I got called. As we walked
back to the lab, the proctor looked at me and said don't worry its good news. H
e
gave me my number written on 'Logo usage Program' CD and baseball cap with the
CCIE logon embazened on the front. I filled out the critique and sped off for a
well earned pint of Hoegarten.

I followed the CCNA and CCNP track. The advantage of this is that it gives you
milestones along the way.
I read Halabi's Internet Routing Architectures, Caslow, Hutnik, Cisco IOS Wid
e
area networking solutions, Network design and case studies. I also worked
through all of the configuration guides on the Cisco CD for IOS 12.0.

I built a test lab at home and also had access to a comprehensive Lab at work

Don't give up, if/when you fail a lab take some time off. Re-aquaint yourself
with your family. Then get back down to it. You can achieve it, but must put in
the effort.

Make sure you know the core topics and the 'gotchas' backwards.

Regards

Gordon
