Fast-Switched Policy Routing is supported in IOS from 11.3(x) up. Then command
 to enable it is

(config-if)#ip route-cache policy

You can go to http://www.cisco.com/go/fn and search for "Fast-Switched Policy
Routing" for info about version of IOS that support this feature. Require CCO
account.

Subject: OT: IOS performance between versions

Anyone,

Sorry about the OT post, but I'm looking for some feedback on whether
or not to upgrade the IOS on a production 2500. It's got 2 Ethernet ints,
and 2 serial. 1 serial goes to 10 remote locations with 10 subints for
frame relay. The other serial goes to an ISP. CIR is 512 internet, 768 for
the remote locations. There are route maps on the LAN side Ethernet and the
serial to the remote sites. If a packet is destined to the internet, the
route maps send it a pix which is located on the LAN Ethernet. The PIX
nats, and sends it to the other Ethernet int on the 2500, which sends it to
the internet. Needless to say, this is a very hard working 2500! SH INT
SWITCHING shows almost all packets being process switched on the interfaces
with route maps. Current version is 11.2.3P. RAM is 4 megs. Would running
a 12.0 image give me any performance benefit? There are a few buffer misses
as well. I may upgrade RAM to 16 and increase some queues. I know that
they moved things like NAT to fast switching, anyone know if policy routing
is now also? The router runs a constant 30%, but with more sites coming up
and an increase in internet bandwidth, it's going to need something soon.

P.S. I didn't design this crazy configuration. So don't flame me.
