Guys,
Thanks for the contribution to the topic. I have been offline since and did
not realise how much havoc this question has caused on the mailing list.
First of all I am not being diplomatic in agreeing with both Curtis and you,
Eugene. I am on this list because I have one goal and that is to seek
knowledge, provide answers and become a CCIE.
I am quite happy with the answers that I have received and I want to thank
everybody for participating. I have managed to setup the scenario on my home
Lab and it show that the traffic does not go all the way through the Vlink
but just does one hop from R2 to R1. It is the routing information that
travels through the VIRTUAL LINK/TUNNEL, to make R2 appear to be
directly connected to area 0.
With out the V or T word, other areas connected to area 0 (lets say an R10
in area 10, on the extreme left-hand-side of my diagram), would not have
information on how to get to R2.
Chuck it was nice of you to send this question to the other guys to see what
they could come up with and I must say that Alans explanation is simple and
short. For those of you that dont currently have access here it is:
