They're pretty good to practice basic lab exercieses. You'll need
something with several interfaces to make a frame-relay switch but other
than that you seem to have a good handle on their limitations. You also
might consider for the price difference the advantages of the 1700
series for your lab. The resale value will be higher and you'll have
more options.
