I normally don't entertain OTs, but...
I am probably part of the minority here, but I disagree. I do have a social
life, even though it is not quite as active as my pre-CCIE-prep days.
On Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, I study for about 2 hours at work. Then, my study
partner and I will hammer out labs and discussions from 4:30-10 PM. Friday
evenings and Saturdays are for my fiance; except when we go on a date
somewhere, she might drive and I will read some whitepapers. Sunday evenings
are for God and the rest of my family (brother, sister-in-law, parents and
church). Sometimes on Sunday mornings I will read a bit or remotely access
my labs at work. Come July, I will probably ask for more support from those
around me, but I do believe that most of the "mental preparedness" is in
your head.
The point is: I believe that there are ways we can integrate our social and
personal lives with our professional one. What good is a CCIE if after
you've attined it, you lost all other valuable things in life? (like your
relationship with your loved ones).
I am still making great progress. I guess come August, we'll see if I can
claim that: I got my CCIE and was still able to keep my personal life in the
process.
Cheers,
