I can tell you that the New Zealand market (and I believe Australian market)
seems to be booming - of course alot of the CCIEs produced here go to the UK
or US to make lots of dollars due to the weak NZ and AUS dollars, and seem
to do well overseas as we tend to have a broader range of skills due to our
low populations...
It is more important here to have a CCIE qualification than experience -
experience doesn't really matter too much. We are supposed to have 41 CCIEs
in New Zealand (about 1 per 85000 people), but I heard only 11 of those are
still in the country - hence a bit of demand.
Maybe you unemployed CCIEs (who would have thought) should consider working
here - the money in USD is low ($60000 USD to $80000 USD) but the cost of
living is much much lower (approx half the US, a third the UK)....Australia
pays a bit better with similar cost of living to New Zealand ($70000 USD to
$90000USD)

Hi Dmitry,
Sorry to hear you're on the bench. Have you looked at dice.com? I'm not in
the market, but I look occasionally to watch the value of my certs. I
thought there was a decent number of positions requiring ccie cert. Many
were in the Bay Area as I recall. I didn't notice if they were
contract/project oriented, though.
Generically speaking, though, I have seen a slow-down in new projects. The
tier 1 ISP I support for Cisco has slowed new project spending. And locally
(South Florida) a many integrators are cutting all but their most productive
technical talent (much like Cisco) due to a lack of business. Seems like
only the grey marketeers are making much money right now selling defunct
dot-com equipment.
