Hi David,
You need a route to (and this is my term) 'populate' the summary. OSPF
will
not publish the summary to null0 in the routing table unless there is
something to summarise. Basically you will need to redisitribute a route (E1
or E2) from somewhere that is part of the summary you are trying to create.
This is my experience anyway, has anyone else found something different ?
HTH,

Subject: redist question cont'd

Hi,
Can someone give a redistribution challenged brother a hand? :)

I have an ASBR router with one interface in OSPF area 0. It has a network
address of 172.21.19.0/28 and another interface in an IGRP domain with a
network address of 172.21.18.0/24. I need to get my IGRP router pinging
the /28 network. The best answer I got was to create a summary-address on
the ASBR router (summarizing the /28 network to a /24). OSPF will this
this is a /24 network from IGRP and will then redistribute it into the IGRP
domain. My only problem is; what summary-address do I use? I tried
summary-address 172.21.19.0 255.255.255.0 but it would not show up in any
of my OSPF routers as a summary route. I also tried the major network
address of 172.21.0.0 255.255.255.0 but still had not luck with it
appearing in routing tables. Any suggestions?

Thanks again,
David
