you don't need to have the ip or subnet, but you will need to pass from
a "nat inside" and "nat outside" (or vice versa), you can try loopbacks or
tunnels,
depending on your scenario, you may need to add static routes to force it
thru one of these.
I've had to do some pretty ugly "temporary" setups for customers in a
pinch...
