Actually while RIP traffic may still be accepted, all timers on the domain
should be changed,

Routing TCP vol 1, Doyle p.196 ".. If the timing of onre router is changed,
the timing of all
the routers in the RIP domain must be changed"

The principle is the routers are all living by a common set of rules, if you
change one router, the other
rules may or may not coincide, so while routes may appear fine, they may
start to flap or drop
for no obvious reason, depending on the values of course.
