Hi,
I passed the lab on my only attempt on Thursday at San Jose. I'm just =
relieved that I don't have to put my family through this ordeal again. =
My wife was more than supportive. She was literally living without a =
husband for the last few months. I would say that to study for the test =
you have to know yourself. I DID NOT do one practice lab during my =
studies. I can't sit down for 8 hours straight to prove to myself that =
I can do something I know I can do. Instead, I spent months =
understanding the theories and protocols on the test. Then in the last =
week of March I took ECP1 in New York with Val. I must say that I was =
impressed with his vast knowledge. In the class there were some =
technologies that I did not know were going to be in the test. I spent =
the next three weeks understanding each one of them. The week before =
the test, I read all the labs from CCbootcamp and went over all the =
scenarios from ECP1. As I read the labs and the scenarios, I would draw =
a picture of what was being asked and looked for any "issues". If there =
was something I wasn't sure of, I would look at the answer key and made =
sure I understood "why" that was the answer.
I did have hands on experience, but as I mentioned, I did not spent =
hours everyday on the routers. I would go to the Cisco website, which I =
used more than anything, and looked over sample configs. If there was =
something that didn't make "much sense", I would simulate it on three =
routers that I had at my office desk. I didn't have access to ISDN, =
ATM, nor VoX. I did take the voice class back in December. For ISDN =
and ATM, I would read the same sample configs every 4 to 5 days until I =
understood, without thinking, every step.
Besides the Cisco Website, I used routing TCP/IP, Halabi and Caslow. =
The ECP1 and the CCbootcamp labs were fabulous resources. Also, my =
manager, Scott, was very supportive of my goal. Scott, Sam, and Monahar =
were the only ones at the office that believe I could pass on my first =
attempt. Almost everyone else took it for granted that I was going to =
fail. Thanks gays.
For those of you that are going for it, I would say what Val told me in =
the class, which is very true. It was something like this: "Don't be =
concern about the questions that are going to be on the Lab. Just learn =
everything to make yourself better".
