Theres the undocumented 'csim' command. Maybe throw a
answering machine off the FXS ports. I had same
scenario and my solution to test voice without being
there was with modems. I haven't had a opportunity to
get my modem testbed hooked up yet but it should work
fine.
Basically, hang 2 modems off router FXS port and
connect serial port of modem to AUX/term server port
and reverse telnet into modem and monitor modem
console and issue AT commands. If you see RING it is
ringing, etc. ATDT to call other end. I did this sort
of testing back in my BBS operator days.
Syntax is 'csim start #'.
r5#csim start 6666
csim: called number = 6666, loop count = 1 ping count
= 0
csim: loop = 1, failed = 1
csim: call attempted = 1, setup failed = 1, tone
failed = 0
OR
csim: loop = 1, failed = 0
csim: call attempted = 1, setup failed = 0, tone
failed = 0
0 for failed = success (phone was answered)
1 for failed = fail (no answer)
This is an example for a VoIP/VoFR connection. I have
noticed different responses for calling between FXS
ports on same router. When I did it I got a console
message back of some sort.
