I took an rj45 coupler and a short length of console cable with rj45 jacks
on the ends in a straight through configuration and connected this to the
octal cable from my terminal server. Works great with a Sup III G.
Thanks.

Bob,
The coupler is an in-line coupler used to connect a cat 5500 sup III to the
2511 octopus cables, and unfortunately, there is no documentation that I
can
send you to prove this other than to tell you I have this working with no
problem and I don't mind giving you access to my TS to prove this since you
don't seem to agree, or maybe someone out there can verify this, as for the
"you are wrong issues", everyone gets a bad day sometimes or
misunderstands
an issue and makes a mistake, for those who take advantage of this, they
will be treated the same way when they make a mistake.......
Thank you

Folks,
I must have missed something...what is the coupler for? I mean, if it is a
straight-through coupler, then why would it be essential? If it is not a
straight-through coupler, then that might seem to indicate that Andrew is
right or partially right. Or are you talking about an rj-45 to db-9 or
rj-45
to db-25 adapter?
Maybe we could look for some proof on CCO instead of just trying to speak
from experience. I only looked for a minute or two, but I found this on
CCO:

Mike, I think this article may help. This doc shows the pinouts for all of
the console connections, so this should give you enough info to do what
you're trying to do.
I suggest that in the future, if one tells someone else on the list that
he/she is wrong, maybe one should provide some documentation. Seems like
there has been a lot of "you're wrong," "No, you're wrong" messages on the
list lately. I mean, that whole 16MB flash debate from a week or so ago was
a little our of hand and could've been solved more quickly by more
documentation and less "you're wrong" messages ;)
Just my opinion...
Bob
