I've finally made it on my 3rd attempt!!!
What's more, i didn't have to travel halfway round the world to get my
number, i managed to pass right here in Singapore ;)
It's been a long, lonely, exasperating but REWARDING journey...
Here is my lab experience
------------------------
1st attempt : Dec 00 in Singapore (Did not make it to day 2)
2nd attempt : Mar 01 in Australia (Made it to TS, however still not
good enough)
3rd attempt : Apr 01 in Singapore (Finally passed)
There are people who say that there are certain sites which are easier
to pass. Both sites i have been to are equally tricky... Neither is
easier than the other... The lab does not go into very deep detail,
however it is VERY tricky!!!
I triple checked my work on both 1st day & 2nd day morning, however i
still could not catch all the tricks...sigh...
Here is my training experience/material purchased
------------------------
1. CCBOOTCAMP labs
2. Fatkid labs
3. ECP1 course (I view this as the beginning of my CCIE journey, i only
realised how far away i was from the from the goal after attending this
course)
4. Halabi's book (The BGP bible)
5. Beau Williamson's book (The multicast bible)
6. Kennedy/Clark's book (The LAN switching bible)
7. Doyle's book (The IGP bible)
8. Tan Nam Kee's book (A pretty good DLSW reference)
BRS text
9. All-in-one lab text
I believe sitting for the lab is itself a training experience, you won't
know what to really expect until you actually attempt it!! It was a very
humbling experience...
Strategy Used
------------------------
I do not see a lot of people mentioning this, it should be common sense
though...
TRY TO SCORE most of the points from Day1 & Day2 morning!!!
Having been through TS on my 2nd attempt, i knew what a NIGHTMARE it
would be...
I can tell you that i didn't do very well on my 3rd attempt either...
Too many problems at 1 time...really overloaded me...
I thought i had failed for the third time yesterday, and i really wanted
to just forget about getting the cert... I don't think i have the
momentum to continue with another 2-3 months of intensive lab
practice... Also, it's pretty scary to be alone in the office lab on
weekends...
HOWEVER, just as i picked up my jacket and was about to leave...the
proctor handed me a slip of paper and said "YOU PASSED".... That must
have been the most shocking moment of my life so far!!
I have been through both methods, same/different networks for
Troubleshooting... Both are equally frightening to me... I wouldn't want
to go through it again...
Maybe because i implement/configure stuff more often than i
troubleshoot...
Other tips
------------------------
Find out what the lab site has to offer, in my case (not offer)
We were not allowed to make use of "notepad" to cut & paste configs...
Therefore, 1 month before my 3rd attempt, i practiced setting up all my
routers without resorting to "notepad"...
You do not want to get really used to performing a task in a particular
method & change when you least expect it to...
Browse through every section of the 12.0 documentation at least once,
the search engine did not help me much on the 2nd day morning... They
wanted me to perform 3 tasks which i had absolutely no prior knowledge
of... The CD saved my life...
To those who are almost at the end of the tunnel... You can make it
too....
It's time to begin a new phase in my life....
