T1 does not have a keep alive signal at the physical layer - merely an
enforced line coding (B8ZS for example) to ensure the ones density required
to keep all line repeaters etc synchronised. Framing formats vary depending
on what exactly you are trying to pass over the link - data or voice.

A good place to start for overview materials is any reputable test equipment
manufacturers web help pages as they normally have documents explaining line
coding, frame formats etc. I used to work for TTC (now known as Acterna).
Their web page used to be www.ttc.com ( which I suspect is now
www.acterna.com). Try searching for their technical documents. They are
quite clear with their explanations.
