>From my experience, if you put 'ip pim rp-add' on a
router and the IP address is on that router then it
knows it is the RP. Now, you can use the same command
on other routers to tell them where the RP is. The 'ip
pim rp-add' command staticly defines the RP.
There are dynamic ways. Auto-RP and Candidate-RP and
Candidate-BSR. Auto-RP is a Cisco only thing from my
experience since Auto-RP doesn't work with other
vendors that I've tried it with. Candidate-RP and
Candidate-BSR work with other vendors from my
experience.
