Obviously a spammer has gotten hold of the posting address and is spamming
the list. I do have some filters in place, but some spammers are becomming
more adept at going through filters. The more I filter, the more legitimate
messages are blocked. So we have a choice, more filtering or more
inappropriate e-mail messages?
With the other groups I tried to only allow subscribed users, but this did
not work. Too many times the client was using a different FROM: address
then what was subscribed, causing messages to be bounced. This was in part
because of the diverse methods used to receive messages does not require a
person to join. But this group is different so it might not be such a
problem.
But some will still be bounced. Before we take that step, we should
consider if a single spam message out of 1000's of messages warrents such
action. For now I feel the answer is no. But if the problem becomes
greater, then we might need to do something. But I would like other
opinions.
Let's also look at other alternatives as well. What about the RBL or ORBS?
Has anyone been sucessful with those services? Or course I am afraid again
of rejecting legitimate traffic. Any other anti-spam measures/software we
can try?
Take care,
Paul Borghese
