That may work. Also just a FYI, sometimes removing a
sub-interface, DLCI/PVC assignment doesn't completely
remove it from the routers memory until a reboot.
Thats why it complains about being in use already.
This behavior may change depending on what you
configure/remove and may vary in IOS versions.

My suggestion is to do a write-mem and reload if
you've been making lots of config changes, etc so you
have less chance of some process getting stuck in
memory somewhere preventing things from running
correctly.
