Though somewhat simplified, you can think of the TRF as a ring
and the BRF as a bridge group of rings. The BRF is a broadcast
domain and could as such be compared to an ethernet VLAN.

Just like an ethernet VLAN, the host on a token-ring BRF will
be in one or more IP subnets and for each subnet, you'll need
a gateway to gain access to other subnets.
