Why do I use IPX for Network Game based on Local LAN such as StarCraft, Doom..?

Hi, Groups...

I have a funny question...

When I play the network game such as StarCraft, Doom,
why do I have to choose IPX instaed of TCP/IP for local area network ?

Does IPX faster than TCP/IP for Local..?

Any ideas?
