Hi there,

I had exactly the same problem you are describing. I had a 2500 which
appeared to have a faulty console port, and attempts to get into enable mode
via the aux port met with "no password set" (as you point out, probably due
to the configuration, which you can't see). At first I thought the console
port was dead, but I found that output would come out of it, but I couldn't
type to it. But by switching to the aux port and pressing return a few
times, the console port responded to the keystrokes of the aux port.

I presumed that the router was dead, and left it for a couple of months
. A
few weeks ago I cleared all my routers and defaulted them. This router was
among them, and I was only reminded of the problems I had earlier by your
message. So what I am saying is, if I figured out a way of fixing it, I
can't remember it. I know this isn't much help to you, but I thought it
might be more useful information than the replies you have had so far. I
just wanted you to know that your router is probably not dead, and your
console port is probably not faulty.

When you say you console port is faulty, do you mean that you can still
 see
output from the router on it, i.e. the startup sequence? But you press
return when it says "Press return to get started". If so, this is exactly
what I had. If you can't see anything during startup, it is also possible
that a different baud rate is set on it. You could try different baud rates
on your terminal. I'm sorry I can't help you more, I just wanted to say
don't give up on your console port.

Mark

hi,

i cant go to the ROMMON mode, cause it doesn't allow
to break(ctl-brk) via AUX port, only via CON port.

i think my router has "no enable password" and/or "no
enable secret", thats why when i log-in via AUX, and
type "en", it says "%No Password Set".

bbye
