Maybe not the best solution but I always just used tip to connect to the
console of the terminal server and the telnet from there..
But that was Digital UNIX.. er.. True 64

minicom is just abut the best you can get as terminal software
ctrl-a, then z shows you some options and "f" is to send break so....
just press ctrl-a then f and the router will stop booting
