I had this on a lab as well and that is the answer that the instructor gave
but I can't get it to work. What version of code does this work on? I just
tried it on 12.0(7) and my hello times didn't change after changing the
dead-interval. The info below is on a point-to-point frame-relay link
default to hello 30, dead 120, wait 120, retransmit 5
interface Serial0
ip address 133.1.12.2 255.255.255.0
no ip directed-broadcast
encapsulation frame-relay
ip ospf dead-interval 500
no ip mroute-cache
no fair-queue
Serial0 is up, line protocol is up
Internet Address 133.1.12.2/24, Area 0
Process ID 1, Router ID 133.1.2.2, Network Type NON_BROADCAST, Cost: 64
Transmit Delay is 1 sec, State DR, Priority 1
Designated Router (ID) 133.1.2.2, Interface address 133.1.12.2
Backup Designated router (ID) 133.1.1.1, Interface address 133.1.12.1
Timer intervals configured, Hello 30, Dead 500, Wait 500, Retransmit 5
Hello due in 00:00:11
Index 1/1, flood queue length 0
Next 0x0(0)/0x0(0)
Last flood scan length is 2, maximum is 2
Last flood scan time is 0 msec, maximum is 0 msec
Neighbor Count is 1, Adjacent neighbor count is 1
Adjacent with neighbor 133.1.1.1 (Backup Designated Router)
Suppress hello for 0 neighbor(s)

You can also change the dead time. Play with it on an interface, you will
see the hello time change also. Then make sure both ends of the link match.

You could change the ospf network type. Mostly useful in frame-relay. This
will change the hello and dead timers since the dead timer is 4 times the
hello timer. Broadcast and point to point will have timers of 10 and 40.
Non-broadcast will be 30 and 120. You can see this information if you do a
show ip ospf interface.
The command to change the network type is and interface command:
ip ospf network [network type]
Hope this helps
