The key command is different if you use the message-digest command.

You need to use: ip ospf message-digest-key <Key_ID> md5 <Key_String>

Subject: OSPF Authentication - I thought it was easy.

I configured ospf with authentication. And had following observation:

!
interface Ethernet0
 ip address 172.18.0.2 255.255.255.240
 no ip directed-broadcast
!
ip ospf authentication message-digest ( This command seems to effect
authentication type just on the interface)
!
!
ip ospf authentication-key 2 cisco <---- (This command is most confusing
it does not seem to matter
! if this command is present or missing, adjencies are formed regardless and
routes learn't)
!
!
router ospf 10
 log-adjacency-changes
!
area 0 authentication <----- ( This command defines authentication for the
whole area.
! If we define authentication to be " message-digest" it also defines for
whole area, otherwise you
! can choose on per interface basis with inteface mode command)
!
redistribute igrp 10 metric 100 subnets tag 2222
 network 172.18.0.0 0.0.255.255 area 0

Please Help. What am I missing.
