I did not build voice into my lab I found that it was easily located on the CD
should I need to refresh on any commands I honestly could not afford it . A fri
end of mine let me have a go on his as well as Cisco who let me configure there
s. Its not that dificult to configure once you have a go and you will honestly
kick yourself spending that amount of money on voice interfaces when you see ho
w straight forward it is well thats my opinion anyway. You still need to know t
he technology well however.
I would say you really do need ISDN so either two lines or a simulator are requ
ired.
I had ATM in my lab including an LS1010 but they are expensive try getting a di
fferent ATM switch on Ebay (Bay centillion) they sell cheaper than Cisco and as
you do not need to configure the LS1010 its not essential to be honest I doubt
the cloud is now that LANE has gone from the exam.

I would say 8 routers for a home lab this includes one for a frame switch and o
ne a terminal server a cat 5000 series switch and a 3620 token ring switch plus
ISDN of some description and two 2503's the others can mix and match but get a
t least 2 Tokenring interfaces on your routers as well and 2 ATM interfaces for
a point to point link. You might not be able to get the TR switch if you cant
read about it on the CD and get 2 maus from Ebay I got 2 for $20.

The equipment is important but so is knowing the technology very well.
Good luck

Greetings all,

I am trying to build a (home) CCIE pratice lab. I need to work within a budget
(cheap as possible but still alot of features). If I can stay under the 15K
mark I would be able to sleep at night.. 10K and I would smile while sleeping
:-) I would imagine that several of you have done some leg work on this
already. I am aware of some missing components (token, ATM) but I am trying to
concentrate on the core stuff. I threw voice in b/c I am VERY lacking in this
and I hear it will become more important.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

BTW I already own the 2924, and the numbers are memory (DRAM/Flash)

Here is what I have outlined so far:
Terminal server 2509/2510 4 8
Access Router 1 2501 16 16
Access Router 2 2501 16 16
Access Router 3 1750 32 8
Access Router 4 1750 32 8
WAN Cloud 4000 32 8
Switch 1 5000 32 4
Switch 2 2924XL-EN 8

Voice Module for 1750 VIC-2FXS
Voice Module for 1750 VIC-2FXS
4 Port Serial Module for 4000 NP-4T=
FEnet switching module 5002 WS-X5113
supervisor engine module WS-X5540
