I agree 1750's aren't ideal because they don't run Enterprise.
On the other hand they are the most cost effective way to do
voice. My question would be whether the simple voice you can perform on
a 1750 could be more cheaply learn't from books/CIM ?

If you want to save money an AGS+ / MGS still makes a good frame switch.

In my opinion, 45/4700's are only worth the extra over one of the 4 port
2500's if you can afford ATM / Faste modules etc.

I know ideally we would all have 5000's or 2900's as our lab switches, but
I'd
much rather spend the money on a couple more 2500's so I can to more complex
BGP/OSPF/IS-IS scenarios. As with the 4000's, a 5000 is a complex beast
with
expensive cards in it, but with just fast ethernet it seems a waste of
money.
I have a 2924XL like you, and I know it's the wrong command set, but it's
enough
to play with multicast etc. I'm lucky in that we have a couple of 5000's
here
at work to play on (ish they're live kit) But I don't see that I could learn
alot from having an almost empty one at home.
