I think he is referring to is the "lab world" not real world. What if you
come across a scenario in a lab that you are asked to setup bgp between a
router across a ATM cloud that is not under your control and you do not know
the the ip address and/or AS number. Thoughts?

so you use the phone or the e-mail to ask the people from the remote AS for
details
