Well, if you are allowed to use sub-interfaces do it, then you do not have
to worry about mapping. If you cannot use sub-interfaces you have to provide
layer 2 to 3 mapping. In new style pvc it is done with "protocol ip 1.1.1.1
broadcast" in pvc mode. I do not think you can do minimum bandwidth with UBR
try ubr+ to set men and max bandwidth. Also you can do it using vc-class and
ubr+. You are correct in saying that you do not need map-groups / map-list,
but you still need mapping.

Subject: RE: Configuring ATM PVCs with UBR vs. ABR
Thanks. Someone else just pointed that out as well. I don't
know why I did
not see that last time I was on an ATM interface, I must
have just been in a
rush. So it sounds like if I need to specified a minimum and
a maximum for
UBR, then I need to use the PVC 0/100 method instead of a
map group and
map-list, is that correct?

When you configure PVC, let's say you type pvc 0/100 and hit
enter you will
be in pvc mode. Type ? to see all the available options.
mdrtgate01(config)#int atm1/0.777 po
mdrtgate01(config)#int atm1/0.777 point-to-point
mdrtgate01(config-subif)#pvc 0/100

Yan,
I didn't see any option for aal5snap under
the pvc 0/1
method. Maybe I just
missed it.I'll try again the next chance I
get.
Thanks for the response.

When configure new style PVC.
Int atm 2/0
Pvc 0/1 then hit enter and it will get you
into pvc mode
where you can
specify encapsulation, QoS, and lots more.

Subject: Configuring
ATM PVCs with
UBR vs. ABR
When configuring ATM PVCs
similar to the
example in
Caslow's/Pavlichenko's
book,
Interface ATM 3/0
ATM PVC 1 0 99 aal5snap
IP address 1.1.1.1
255.255.255.0
Map-group mygroup
Map-list mygroup
Ip address 2.2.2.2 atm-vc 1
aal5snap
I cannot find an option for
UBR, only ABR.
After looking
through the
archives I see that the
above is an older
form of mapping a
PVC. However, I
cannot find an aal5snap
option when using
the newer method,
Interface ATM 3/0
IP address 1.1.1.1
255.255.255.0
Pvc-mypvc 0/1......
Is there a way of specifying
UBR for the
first example and
if not, is there
an option for aal5snap for
the second
method?
Also, any helpful links
would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff
