Well, forget about upgrding IOS, you have to work with what is there.
Tests are made in a way that "there is at least one solution" with IOS you
have,
just find it!!!

Another point to make is that you may want to use dialer-watch as a
solution, but the IOS provided doesn't support it, guess what....they don't
want you to use a dialer watch solution in that case...Remember they are
testing you know and you will need to make it work with what you are
provided.

On a side note

You know though if the router would support the upgraded code it could be
worth a shot, but as noted it would be risky and could result in an
automatic disqualification. The proctors would probably frown on it but if
the proctors don't come out and tell you you can't change the code I guess
it is fair game. I would recommend getting the proctors opinion before you
go down that path
