Padhu,
The tags are propagated in the routing updates, not all routing protocols
however support this, RIPv2, EIGRP, OSPF for example will support tagging.
An easy way to follow the tagging is using rip, redistributing some statics
into it with a route-map and using the set tag XX command and then
watching rip sending the updates with
debug ip rip
The more redistribution points and the more different tags you use the messier
it obviously becomes. Like anything else it requires carefull planning.
