It usually works. I did this with DES versions on the 2500s, but I had some
trouble with the IOS versions larger than 14Mb. I took out the 8Mb flash in
one 2500 and added it to another, then put a 4Mb in the first one so it
would boot. Then loaded the large file in the second router's flash, and
used it as the TFTP server for the 4Mb flash one. Just be sure the 16Mb
flash one comes up first. I also did it using the TFTP server on a
workstation.
