In traditional translational bridging there is the issue that the
MAC may be carried as part of the layer 3 payload which will cause
some protocols to not work. Typical examples have been IPX with GNS
and IP with ARP. In current versions of IOS there is a new command
which instructs a router interface doing bridging to bit-swap not
only the layer two MAC but to look into the payload and bit-swap
there as well. see bridge bitswap-layer3-address. the documentation
speaks specifically to IP ARP and is not clear if it also fixes IPX
GNS issues.
