I read everything I could find on CCO regarding the multiring command, but
I'm still having a hard time grasping what it does....I understand that it
allows the router to attach to RIF information to whatever protocol is
specified (i.e. multiring ip), but when do I need to use it? It seems like
it would be necessary if I had, for instance, a token ring router interface
with an IP address connected to a ring where there were IP hosts on the
other side of a source-route bridge:
RtrA-(t0/0)-----SRB--------IP host
This way, the router could get traffic to the hosts by appending RIF
information needed by the SRB. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Also, is there ever a need to use multiring on a token ring interface that
is bridging? Let's say I had the following configuration:
IP host----(t0/0)-RtrB-(e0/0)----(e0/0)-RtrA-(t0/0)----SRB-----IP host
If RtrA has an RSRB session with RtrB, do I need multiring IP on t0/0 on
RtrA (even though it doesn't have an IP address)? To say I'm mildly
confused would be an understatement.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Jack
