Hi Guys,
There's actually a Victorian-style bed and breakfast not far from the
lab (probably a 5-7 minute walk with no hills to climb). It's called
the Garden View Inn and it's really nice.
I just called to inquire about rates and I was quoted $84.14 CAD per
night (that includes a continental breakfast too!). Be sure to ask
for the Corporate Rate for Cisco. The rate may be a little higher
during summer season.
Here's their Web site if you want to check it out:

Definitely try to exchange US money at a bank. There are a few shops
around town that will offer a fair trade but they're pretty few and
far between. Most only offer a percentage of what you should get.
I would suggest not renting a car unless you are interested in touring
the province while you're here. Most of what you will want is in
downtown Halifax (restaurants, banks, shops, etc). If you do rent a
car, be warned... gas is .83/litre! :-(
Regards from Halifax,
Christine
